Singapore Design Week
For Singapore Design Week 2024, STEMIE Advantages is delighted to bring you two different workshops centered around the theme of ‘What if?’.
Through these workshops, participants will learn to prototype, ask questions, and be inspired to make an impact on the way we live and grow in Singapore!
Program 1: What if buses had wings?
(For Kids Aged 6 - 8 Years)
Summary: How can we make the way we get around Singapore better and more fun? In this workshop, students will explore the physical attributes of everyday transportation and apply the TATE method to redesign different modes of transport. All teaching materials are reusable, and students will use recyclables in the prototyping process.
Key Learning Points:
- Identifying problems and needs, fostering empathy towards the community and the environment.
- The process of ideation and designing, enabling children to think creatively about solutions.
- Utilizing recyclable materials to create prototypes, promoting sustainable practices.
Program 2: What if we got around in giant balls?
(For Kids Aged 9 and Up)
Summary: By 2040, Singapore will no longer allow the sale of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to achieve a more sustainable transport system. Are electric cars the only solution? What else can be done? What other problems do we face in our public transportation system? Students will learn to innovate solutions to identified problems using the TATE method. All teaching materials are reusable, and students will use recyclables in the prototyping process.
Key Learning Points:
- Identifying and framing transportation problems in Singapore, fostering an understanding of real-world issues.
- Introduction to SCAMPER ideation technique for brainstorming innovative solutions.
- Designing and prototyping ideas using recyclable materials, promoting sustainability.
- Emphasizing the importance of diverse and accessible transportation solutions.
About Singapore Design Week
One of Asia’s premier design festivals, Singapore Design Week (SDW) celebrates Singapore’s distinctive brand of creativity, exploring design through three defining festival pillars: Design Futures (the design of the future and the future of design), Design Marketplace (lifestyle trends with a spotlight on Southeast Asia), and Design Impact (innovative solutions for a better world). Organised by the DesignSingapore Council, SDW is a celebration of creativity and innovation, championing thought leadership and showcasing the best of design from Singapore and beyond.
